Published 9:38am Friday, September 27, 2013

EVANSVILLE – The Brandon/Evansville Charger volleyball team hosted Little Eight Conference Foe Ashby on Thursday night, surviving an early rush by the Arrows in the first set with a 4-1 victory (13-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-23).

After falling out of step in the first set in which it lost to Ashby, the Chargers improved their defensive assignments and starting hitting for higher efficiency, which helped them to win the next four sets.

Caroline Jansen led the Chargers with 21 kills on the night. Emma Friedrich followed up with 12. Kinsley Randt contributed 30 assists on the night, spreading out the offense to her Charger teammates.

Megan Kokett and Mariah Hansen led the Charger defense with 15 digs a piece. Friedrich had 13, while Randt added 12 more.

The Chargers improve to 7-4-1 with the win and are tied for first place with Battle Lake in the conference. They will play in the Parkers Prairie Tournament this Saturday.

Ashby falls to 5-12 and hosts a tough Henning team next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
