Fergus bowlers take conference lead with winPublished 10:33am Monday, September 30, 2013
The Fergus Falls bowling teams traveled to Perham on Sunday for their fourth meet of the season. Scores were down on a very challenging lane condition, but the three teams battled for a total of seven wins out of the nine matches, with the varsity sweeping their third meet in a row 3-0, and each of the JV teams going 2-1.
The Otter varsity squad started the day against conference co-leader, Detroit Lakes. Both teams were up and down, but the Otters came away with a 3-2 match win, and sole possession of first place in the conference. Hunter Christenson was high fill percentage for the match at 83 percent, with Mary Gettel at 77 percent, and Arnold Bolland and Zack Anderson with 75 percent. Match two was a 4-1 win over the host team, Perham. Gettel and Olivia Anderson led the team at 88 percent. The final opponent for the meet was the conference second-place team, Wadena, and Fergus Falls came away with another hard-fought, low-scoring victory, 4-1. Dylan Huffman was team-high at 82 percent, with Bolland at 71 percent. The sweep puts the Otters all alone in first place going into the second half of the season.
Fergus Falls’ JV1 saw their chance at first place slip away as they dropped a close match to JV conference leader, Detroit Lakes. The teams traded wins through the first four games, with Fergus Falls coming up just four pins short in the final game. Casey Thom was high fill percentage at 69, with Kylie Jennen second at 66 percent. Match two was a 4-1 win over Fergus JV2. Hunter Norman was team best at 83 percent, with Thom coming in at 75 percent. Match three was a 4-1 win over Wadena JV, with Allison Krensing rolling at 83 percent, Norman at 75 percent, and Dan Anderson with 66 percent.
Fergus Falls’ JV2 put two more wins on the board Sunday, starting out with a 4-1 victory over the BYE. Levi Danielson was team high at 66 percent. JV2 ran into JV1 again in match two and took a 1-4 loss. A tough match overall for the 7th and 8th graders, but the team did come out of it with their high game of the season so far, at 179. Nolan Booth and Ronnie Becker were team high at 50 percent. JV2 came back in match three with a nice 4-1 win over New York Mills JV. Spencer Jennen and Josh Johnson led the way at 62 percent, with Luke Newkirk at 60 percent.
The Otters’ next meet will be at New York Mills at 12 p.m. Saturday.
