PELICAN RAPIDS — The New York Mills Eagles were able to take the top spot in the annual Pelican Rapids Invitational Tournament Saturday.

The Battle Lake Battlers and Lake Park Audubon tied for second, while host Vikings took third in the tournament. Rothsay (4th) and Hillcrest (5th) rounded out the tournament standings.

The Vikings started the day by splitting a match with the Rothsay Tigers, but fell in round two to the Eagles. Pelican Rapids could not recover as it fell in its third match against Battle Lake. The Vikings finished with a win over the Hillcrest Comets and a loss to LPA.

“Overall, it was a very up and down day with some injuries and line up changes,” Vikings’ coach Heidi Isaman said. “These girls are still a little inexperienced but are working extremely hard and making improvements everyday.”

The Vikings will take on Detroit Lakes Tuesday in a Heart O’Lakes conference game at 7:30 p.m.
