City plans tech upgrades in council chamberPublished 11:19am Tuesday, October 1, 2013
The Fergus Falls City Council chambers will see some technology upgrades in the coming weeks.
The work to put in some better speakers and microphones will start the week of Oct. 14, according to City Administrator Mark Sievert, and work to improve the wireless Internet connection in the chambers will start next week.
“We have very poor wireless within the building right now,” he said.
Local officials and audience members would be able to access the wireless connection during meetings. The connection would be turned off afterward, so people wouldn’t be able to just sit out in the parking lot and have access to it, for example, Sievert said.
They will also put in some better equipment for meeting presentations, like a large screen television so a presenter could simply plug a USB device into the television.
Another possibility is some upgrades to cable television equipment so streaming online video of meetings would be an option. That piece is still in the early stages, so no other details were available.
