Visiting Warriors hold off Otters 3-2

Published 8:51am Wednesday, October 2, 2013

With neither team putting many shots on net, the Fergus Falls Otters saw its lead slip away in the second half as the Brainerd Warriors scored two, early second half goals to claim a 3-2 Central Lakes Conference win Tuesday.

The Otters were able to get on the board first as Sara Anderson was able to clean up a bouncing ball around the Warrior net. Brainerd would respond 15 minutes later as a Warrior player snuck the ball past Fergus goalie Sydney Kuehl to tie the game. Fergus would regain the lead before the break as Lauren Norgren ripped a shot just under the cross bar for a goal.

In the second half, the Warriors came out hot as they booted a ball into the back of the Fergus net three minutes in. Three minutes later, Brainerd would take the lead and holding off the Otters for the remainder of the game.

“Despite the first ten minutes of the second half, we played a great game tonight,” Otter coach Karoline Gustafson said. “We had some good opportunities and controlled the ball well.”

The Otters were only able to put five shots on goal the entire game, while Brainerd was only able to account for six.

The Fergus girls will close out its regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday as it hosts the Alexandria Cardinals in another CLC showdown.
