Augsburg Centennial Singers in concert

The Augsburg Centennial Singers, a 60-voice male chorus, will appear in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, at First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. Tickets are $7.50 for adults, $15 for dinner and the concert; $5 for children ages 12 and younger for dinner and concert. Call 218-864-5686 for tickets.

Al Reesness is the director of choir. He received his BA degree from Augsburg and his Minnesota music education degree from MacPhail College of Music. He has furthered his studies with Fred Waring, Robert Shaw and Roger Wagner. He directed choirs in Minnesota high schools for 33 years an developing organizations noted for the quality of their singing. He received the Spirit of Augsburg award from his alma mater during this year’s homecoming festivities.

The Centennial Singers were formed in the 1990s to continue the tradition of gospel quartets from Augsburg that performed in area churches from the late 1800s to the 1960s.
