Comets shutout Lakers, earn Lake to Prairie titlePublished 9:58am Friday, October 4, 2013
DETROIT LAKES — It was another shutout victory for the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy/Pelican Rapids High School Comets on Thursday night, but one that was a little more meaningful. With a 3-0 victory over the Detroit Lake Lakers, the Comets clinched the Lakes to Prairie Conference title.
Kevin Franco started the scoring off early for the Comets, battling rain soaked field conditions to bury a shot off a centered pass from Chris Pellegrino at the six minute mark.
Pellegrino scored a goal of his own 23 minutes into the game, when Franco returned the favor with a pass up the middle that set up the shot. With the score at 2-0, the Comets carried the lead into the half.
Sondra Harila scored the only goal of the second half at the 74th minute with another assist given to Franco off a free kick.
Comet keeper Hobbs Diaz was perfect in the net, stopping all six shot on goals.
With the win, the Comets are 12-0-1 on the year and will be back in action against Little Falls at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Fergus Falls.
