PERHAM — Battling wind and weather, the Perham boys cross country team defended its home course winning the Harrier Invite Thursday.
The Yellowjackets’ Keeghan Hurley continues to deliver solid performances on the course as he finished nearly 40 seconds ahead of the runner-up with a time of 15:28.9. Teammate Billy Beseman took third (16:12.6), while Jayden Cullen (6th, 16:18.4) and Ben Sullivan (10th, 16:51) were also in the top ten.
Alex Toms was the top finisher for West Centtral with a time of 16:54.8 (12th). Teammate Devin Nelson finished in 31st with a time of 17:56.5. The Knights would finish in fifth at the event just two points behind fourth place finisher Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
Otter Tail Central’s Luke Himmelspach was the lead runner for the team with a 11th place finish (16:54.5) as the Bulldogs finished in ninth. Ben Himmelspach finished in 22nd for OTC with a time of 17:34.4
Mahad Aden took 18th (17:19.2) for Pelican Rapids as the Vikings finished 10th.
In girls action, the Yellowjackets found themselves in third place with Willmar winning the event and Fargo North taking runner-up honors.
The Cardinals were able to capture the top four spots in the win.
Brynnan Covington led the Perham runners with a time of 15:39.6 for an eighth place finish, while teammates Lizzie Fudge (15th, 15:53.8) and Caitlin Covington (16th, 15:54) finished in the top 20.
Pelican Rapids’ Tianna Wald finished in 12th place with a time of 15:44.6 as the Vikings landed in 10th place.
The West Central Area girls captured eighth place at the event with Kylee Fernholz (18th, 16:02) and Abby VanKempen (22nd, 16:05.6) as its top runners.
Jessica Drake paced the Otter Tail Central girls as she finished with a time of 18:28.
