Otters survie five set shootoutPublished 10:20am Tuesday, October 8, 2013
The Fergus Falls Otters kept their composure Monday evening as a few errors led it into a five set battle with the Moorhead Spuds. After being down two sets to one, the Otters were able to rally from behind to pick up its eighth straight victory 25-19, 19-25, 24-26, 25-23, 15-10.
After picking up an easy first set, the Otters saw four service errors swing the momentum to the Spuds corner. Moorhead was able to win the second and third set, but Fergus was able to use its home court advantage to pick up the fourth set and finish strong with a five-point final set victory.
“We struggled a little, had an opportunity in game three to close the door,” Otter coach Renee Erickson said. “We showed some perseverance in game five, playing smart and aggressive volleyball.”
Brianna Rasmusson and Laura Gaustad led the attack for Fergus as they posted 20 and 17 kills, respectively.
Rasmusson also contributed in the defensive department as her and teammate Anna Monke each had three blocks in the win.
The Otters will be back in action at 7 p.m. Tuesday as it travels to take on Central Lakes Conference rival Brainerd.
