Schools receive $19,750 in grants [UPDATED]

The 544 Education Foundation awarded $19,750 in grants to the Fergus Falls School District at its Oct. 10 board meeting.

The Foundation received 21 grant requests totaling over $30,000.

With a $20,000 budget, they were able to fund 19 at either full or partial amounts.

The grants awarded are as follows:

• $200 for art supplies for the Kennedy Secondary School Middle School Art Club

• $250 for 6 walkie-talkies for the Middle School noon supervisors/office staff

• $355.33 for 20 balance balls (to be used as chairs) for the Lakes Area Education Center

• $410 for the Activslate technology to be used in three 6th grade math classes

• $414 for 24 sets of headphones for two 2nd grade classrooms

• $500 for incentive items for an EBD classroom at Roosevelt Education Center

• $500 for building materials for the FIRST Robotics Team

• $500 for expenses for the Senior Recognition/Hall of Fame Ceremony

• $637.50 for copper jewelry making supplies for the Kennedy Secondary School Art Department

• $710.91 for a water distiller boiler for the Kennedy Secondary School Science Department

• $757.85 for mufflers and repair manuals (to supplement 18 small engines) for the Industrial Technology Department

• $940.95 for 60 choir robes for the Kennedy Secondary School Choral Department

• $1000 for incentives for students enrolled with iQ Academy (the Fergus Falls School District’s online school)

• $1500 to replace old Dr. Suess books and buy new titles for the Cleveland Elementary School library

• $1700 for before- and after-school homework help at Cleveland Elementary School

• $2000 for Otter Preschool Scholarships

• $2243.95 for five iPad 2’s, cases, and apps for blind/visually impaired students

• $2368.67 for speech therapy “Theme Boxes” and corresponding libraries/manipulatives at McKinley Elementary School

• $2760 for “Listening Centers” with audio books for the Kindergarten Classes at McKinley Elementary School
