Pier makes fishing accessible to everyone

Published 6:02am Monday, October 21, 2013

The recent purchase by the Fergus Falls Otter Risers Morning Kiwanis Club of a fishing pier to be located on the levee near downtown may be a small thing.

But for many in Fergus Falls, it provides an opportunity for enjoyment that is a big deal to many local residents.

The 40-foot aluminum, handicap accessible pier will replace the one taken down last spring due to safety concerns. The pier’s central location makes it a great destination for many residents to fish, or simply look out at the often-abundant waterfowl on the levee.

While there are many lakes and rivers in Otter Tail County, the fact is, not everyone has the financial resources to access them.

Thanks to members of the Morning Kiwanis Club, and those local residents who have participated in the club’s fundraisers, for making the pier replacement possible. It’s something all of us can enjoy.
