Final suspect sentenced in ditch assault case [UPDATED]Published 10:10am Tuesday, October 22, 2013 Updated 12:11pm Tuesday, October 22, 2013
One of the men who assaulted a man in a ditch in June in New York Mills pleaded guilty and was sentenced Oct. 18 in Otter Tail County District Court.
Casey Wayne Parmeter, 20, of New York Mills, was sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 85 days to be stayed for one year, for misdemeanor fifth-degree assault. In exchange for the plea, additional counts of felony third-degree assault, felony aiding an offender to avoid arrest and misdemeanor fifth-degree assault were dismissed.
According to the criminal complaint, an argument got out of control in a vehicle with David Wilson Powell, 23, of Perham, Parmeter, Glen Robert Campbell Jr. and another man June 27.
Three of the men reportedly pulled the other man out of the car and beat him up. Campbell was in the backseat of the vehicle Parmeter was driving.
The victim was reportedly hit at least three times, and a 1-1/2 to 2-foot metal pipe was used.
He had two deep cuts on his face and at least one of his eyes was swollen shut, the report says.
Powell was sentenced in August to 90 days in jail for felony third-degree assault. Campbell Jr. was sentenced Oct. 14 to 80 days in jail for felony third-degree assault.
