With three years of experience on the court, Ashby’s Alexis Ness is one of the Arrow’s top players in her favorite sport: volleyball.
Off the court, Ness has a number of other interests, including the experience of learning sign language, which has helped her make plans for her future studies as she leaves for college.
Q: What is your favorite subject?
A: I’d say history.
Q: Do you have a favorite era or period of history?
A: The Roaring Twenties.
Q: What else do you do in high school?
A: I’m post-secondary at M State in Fergus Falls.
Q: Volleyball is your favorite sports, what do you like about it?
A: Hitting it is my favorite part and it’s just a really good team sport.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about playing in Ashby?
A: That we’re all friends.
Q: Do you have a favorite celebration after a point?
A: We always say “Slam it!” when we spike it. That’s my favorite I guess.
Q: Do you have any plans for next year?
A: I want to go to MSUM for speech pathology. I want to hopefully play volleyball there as well.
Q: What makes you interested in speech pathology?
A: I just really like sign language. It would be cool to help people.
Q: How did you get into sign language?
A: My step dad, his dad is deaf, so he knows a lot of sign language and he’s taught me some.
Q: What do you like about knowing some sign language?
A: It’s communication, but a different way of communicating. It’s really unique.
Q: Do you have a favorite sports memory?
A: When I first started playing varsity for volleyball. I remember the exact game I went in, it was in Parkers Prairie three years ago now.
Q: Do you have any other hobbies?
A: I like hanging out with friends. Learning, too, I do my own kind of study with sign language. And spending time with family.
