NDSCS football to join MCACPublished 9:38am Wednesday, October 23, 2013
WAHPETON, N.D. — The North Dakota State College of Science Athletic Department announced today that the college’s football program will join the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC), beginning with the 2014 football season. All other NDSCS sports teams will maintain their current conference affiliations.
NDSCS Athletic Director Stu Engen said the move to the Minnesota-based MCAC was prompted by the number of teams who have announced their departure from the Midwest Football Conference, of which NDSCS has been a member since 2005.
“This new conference affiliation will increase competition with quality teams located in closer proximity to the Wahpeton community,” said Engen. “Our football program is more than 100 years old. Joining the MCAC will allow our football tradition to continue and will bring value to the college and Wildcat fans.”
The MCAC was established in the fall of 1967, with football as its first organized sport. The conference is the second largest football conference in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and two of its teams are currently ranked among the top 15 teams in the NJCAA.
In addition to the new conference affiliation, the NDSCS football stadium is currently undergoing a $1.35 million renovation to its locker rooms, concession stand and store. The new facilities will be completed in time to kick off the 2014 football season.
