Otter bowlers win regular season titlePublished 11:42am Monday, October 28, 2013
The Fergus Falls Varsity bowling team swept all three matches at their final regular season meet, finishing first in the West-Central (North) Conference, and earning the number one seed for next week’s conference tournament in Wadena.
New York Mills was the opponent for match one, with Fergus Falls earning a 4-1 win. Dylan Huffman had a clean, 100 percent match, with Olivia Anderson and Mary Gettel at 77 percent. The Otters bowled against the bye in match two, and secured a 5-0 win. Arnold Bolland set the pace at 88 percent, with Wyatt Swanson and Hunter Christenson finishing at 87 percent. The final regular season match was a 4-1 win against second-place, and host team, Detroit Lakes. Swanson rolled the Otters’ second 100 percent match on the day, with Huffman filling at 83 percent.
Fergus Falls JV1 scored a 5-0 win in their first match against New York Mills JV. Casey Thom had a team-high 80% fill rate, with Hunter Norman second at 75 percent. Match two, against the bye, was another 5-0 win, with Dan Anderson leading the way at 75 percent, and Thom at 71 percent. The JV regular season conference title would come down to the final match of the year against Detroit Lakes. A match win would earn a tie in the standings, but the Otters would have the tie-breaker by way of game wins for the season. The Otters would take game one, but it was not to be, as they dropped the next four, including one loss by three pins, and another game lost by just one pin. Jacob Halvorson led the way at 83 percent, with Thom at 81 percent.
Fergus Falls JV2 dropped a 1-3-1 decision to Detroit Lakes JV in their first match. Ronnie Becker was team-high with 66 percent. Match two was a close battle with Wadena JV, with JV2 pulling out a 3-2 win. John Runningen, Nolan Booth, Levi Danielson, and Becker all posted 66 percent fill rates. JV2 finished up their regular season with a 5-0 win over the bye. Spencer Jennen filled at 87 percent, and Morgan Christenson was second with 83 percent.
The West-Central (North) Conference tournament will be held on Sunday, November 3 at Wadena Lanes, with both the Varsity and JV winners earning spots in the MHSB State Tournament. The Varsity State Tournament will be in Arden Hills on Saturday, Dec. 7, and the Junior Varsity State Tournament will be in St Paul on Sunday, Dec. 8.
