Battle Lake School hosts Mongolian performers

Battle Lake Public School hosted a dance and music performance by the Art College of Inner Mongolia University, which is located in the city of Huhhot, Inner Mongolia, Northern China Oct. 3.

The troupe of 16 members performed several musical arrangements, which featured traditional instruments, such as the horse-head fiddle, and throat-singing.

Performers were both instructors and students at the Art College of Inner Mongolia University, and they are renowned masters of their art.

Dancers performed the bowl dance and a dance honoring the horse, which is important in Mongolian culture.

The performance was sponsored by the Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota, the Hanban, and Battle Lake Public School.  Battle Lake Public became a host site for the Confucius Classroom in 2009.

Chinese language and culture instruction is available to Battle Lake high school and elementary students.
