Comets cruise past Wolves

Led by hat tricks from Chris Pellegrino and Kevin Franco, the Hillcrest Lutheran Academy/Pelican Rapids boys soccer team took its first step in the Section 8A playoff with a 13-0 win over the visiting Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/CL-B on Thursday night.

Franco scored early with a floater that went under the crossbar just one minute into the the game. Three minutes later he put another shot in off a corner kick from Pellegrino.

Chris Larsen found the net with a header off a cross from Eduardo Urbano. At 12 minutes Chris Franco scored a header of his own.

Kevin Franco notched his third goal 13 minutes into the game for the hat trick off an assist from Eric Diaz. Sondra Harila scored off an assist from Larsen to give the Comets a 6-0 lead at the half.

Pellegrino started the scoring in the second half two minutes in off an assist from Kevin Franco. He scored again eight minutes later with a header off an Eric Diaz corner kick. Five minutes later, he scored his third straight goal off a corner kick from Urbano.

At the 60 minute mark, Tommy Thompson scored with a shot off the far post. Gus Anderson added another goal five minutes later and Matt Filipinni scored off an assist from Andreas Aurlien. Quincy Undseth added the final goal with three minutes left in the game off an assist from Gjermond Saevig.

Comet keeper Abdul Ahmed had a perfect afternoon in the net, stopping all four shots the Wolves took.

With the win, the Comets advance to play Alexandria Cardinals who defeated East Grand Forks on Thursday night. The matchup will be at 1 p.m. this Saturday in Fergus Falls.
