Nancy L. Mayen, 58, of Bovey, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Essentia Health in Duluth, after a courageous battle with scleroderma.
She was born on April 27, 1955, in Perham, to Gordon and Mary (Klinnert) Johnson and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1973, and then worked for Broen Home.
She moved to St. Paul where she worked for the Wilder Foundation and met her husband and soulmate, Steven.
They moved to Bovey in 1994, where they bought Mayen’s Northvue resort on Big Trout Lake.
Nancy was a very witty and spirited person, loved going for walks with her dog, drinking her morning coffee and looking out the window at the loons on the lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven; a brother, Scott; and a sister-in-law, Mary.
She is survived by her children, Amber (TJ) Jackson of Shoreview, Monica (Corie) Ross of Cambridge, Christopher (Nicole) Mayen of New London, and Alexander Mayen of Willmar; her parents Gordon and Mary Johnson of Fergus Falls; sisters, Susan (Windell) Paul of White Bear Lake, Laurie (David) Lund of West Fargo, Judy (Jim) Bittner of Prairie Farm, Wis.; eight grandchilren who were the light of her life; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Terry (Bill) Berg, Melanie (Rex) Kastner and Alida Zimmerman.
The family request memorials to the Scleraderma Foundation.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Libbey Funeral Home in Grand Rapids.
