Otters overcome letdown, beat Willmar

After going up two sets, the Fergus Falls volleyball team found itself in a battle with the Willmar Cardinals as the visitor forced a fifth set.

The Otters were able to overcome a lackluster performance winning the final set and the match 25-15, 25-21, 22-25, 24-26, 15-13 Tuesday.

“We had to battle,” Otter coach Renee Erickson said. “We just could not find our rhythm and any time we had momentum, it would slip away.”

Anna Monke had a great night at the net delivering 16 kills and five blocks, while teammates Devonie Smith and Laura Gaustad each had 19 defensive digs in the win.

“The kids did a good job pulling through. We knew Willmar would come at us hard and I give them credit for that,” Erickson said.

The Otters will close out homecoming week at 7 p.m. Thursday as it hosts St. Cloud Apollo in another CLC match up.
