GRAND RAPIDS — In its final game of the season, the M State Spartans saw running back Hayden Zenner sprint, drive, juke and plow past Itasca defenders for a 19 carry, 274 yard and three touchdown day as the visiting Spartans claimed a 35-8 victory.

In another wet and muddy game, the Spartans looked to end its season on a positive note, while the Vikings were still in search of the team’s first win.

With the game still in the balance at 16-8, the Spartan back broke several long runs for three third quarter touchdowns.

“Hayden had a capstone type performance in his final game in blue. We will definitely miss him and the rest of this group of sophomores,” Spartan offensive coordinator Zach Stich said. “They were a hardworking group, even if the scoreboard didn’t go our way most of the season. This game showcased not only our present, but the future of our program.”

Two of those future stars, quarterback Jesse Vanilau and Paris Woods also found the end zone as Vanilau ran the ball in and found Woods on a 20 yard pass in the first half.

The Spartan defense also came up big forcing four turnovers in the victory.

The Spartans finished its season with a 2-6 record.
