Robert “Bob” Wayne Nessa, 68, of Pelican Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, in Chicago, Ill., while en route to visit his brother, Jim, in Ohio.
Robert Wayne Nessa was born June 2, 1945, to William and Marie (Paulson) Nessa in Pelican Rapids. After Robert graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1963, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
From 1967 to 1975, Robert was a patrol officer with the Fergus Falls Police Department.
Prior to his retirement he worked as a Security Guard for Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Fargo for many years.
He also volunteered as a Big Brother in Fergus Falls. In his mother’s later years, Robert enjoyed taking her out for coffee and pie, for lunch at the Cornfield Café, on shopping trips, appointments and rides around the beautiful Pelican Rapids area countryside.
Robert was a gentle soul; a big man with a big heart who was always willing to help others.
He is survived by his brothers, Jim (Kathy) Nessa, Ashtabula, Ohio, and Kenneth Nessa, Bloomington; nieces, Anne Nessa, Ashtabula, Ohio, and Laura Nessa, Fargo; an aunt and uncle, Margaret and Sammy Braton, Pelican Rapids; numerous cousins; many friends in the Pelican Rapids area; and, of course, the special gang that he hung out with at the pool hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and several aunts and uncles.
A special thanks to Chet Nettestad for his help to the family during this difficult time.
Visitation and services were at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, with the Laurie Skow–Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Pelican Valley Cemetery in Pelican Rapids.
Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids was in charge of arrangements.
