ALEXANDRIA — It’s still early in the season, but the Fergus Falls girls hockey team is still in search of its first win after falling to the defending Section 6A Alexandria Cardinals 4-2.

The Cardinals took an early lead as Mari Wosepka slipped in a short handed goal at the 6:33 mark. The Otters were able to tie the game before the end of the periord as defenseman Lauren Norgren stole a puck, skated past defenders and flipped the puck into net.

Alexandria would regain the lead in the opening seconds of the second period as Nicole Bartels punched in the go ahead goal on Melissa Down and Wosepka passes.

Fergus would not lie down as Sydney Kuehl was able to get the Otters even nearly 11 minutes into the third period.

The Cardinals proved why it is the defending section champ as it rallied to score two goals in the third period as Hanah Hansen and Bartels were able to put the game away.

Amy Jost recorded 19 saves in net for the Otters, while teammate Katie Shelstad stopped 17 in the game.

The Otters will get a small break before opening its home season at 7:15 p.m. Thursday against the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek Blue Devils.
