A 38-year-old New York Mills man was injured after his SUV hit a tree in New York Mills early Sunday, according to a news release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
John Carello was driving southbound in the 400 block of South Walker Avenue just before 1 a.m. when the vehicle left the road on a sharp curve and collided with a large tree. The New York Mills Fire Department and first responders arrived moments after the crash and assisted in extricating the driver from the vehicle.
Tri-County Ambulance took Carello to Perham Memorial Hospital. The extent of his injuries was not immediately determined but appeared to be life threatening.
Carello was the lone occupant in the vehicle, he wasn’t wearing his seat belt and the air bags deployed. Alcohol was a factor in the crash. DWI charges are pending.
