MINNEAPOLIS – In its first appearance in the Prep Bowl, the Underwood Rockets saw the arm and legs of Grand Meadow quarterback Trenton Bleifus lead the Superlarks to its first ever 9-Man state title 28-6 Friday at the Metrodome.
Bleifus found the end zone twice for Grand Meadow in the first half as he ran in a five-yard touchdown scamper and found Blake Olson on a flea flicker for a 36 yard scoring pass. Riding the momentum of the first half the Superlarks added two more scores before the Rockets found the end zone on a 32 yard touchdown reception by LeRoy Hauge.
The Rockets struggled offensively as they finished the game with a total of 189 yards and went two of 13 on third down. The state’s leading rusher, Noah Thompson, was held in check as he finished the day with 35 yards on 13 carries. Thompson did not see much fourth quarter action as he injured his hand.
Bleifus finished the game with 10 for 20 111 yards touchdown and 15 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns . Teammate Landon Jacobson ran for 128 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown.
The Rockets finish the season as with a 10-4 record, the Section 6 state title and the 9-Man state runner-up.
