Comets struggle shooting in 53-47 loss in opener

Published 9:09am Friday, November 22, 2013

ORTONVILLE — The Hillcrest Comet boys basketball team opened its season on the road Thursday night, but could not overcome a early lead by the Ortonville Trojans as the host celebrated a 53-47.

The Comets struggled from three-point range as it converted only 1 of 16 attempts and missed 10 shots in the paint. The Trojans were able to take advantage of its own misfortune in the shooting department as they grabbed numerous offensive boards for easy put backs.

Hillcrest’s all-time leading scorer Daniel Nersten led the Comets with 29 points in the game, while teammate Jake Isaac chipped in 13 tallies.

The Comets will look for better luck in its home opener as it takes on West Central Area at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
