Please give to less fortunate [UPDATED]

Published 7:44am Monday, December 2, 2013 Updated 11:53am Monday, December 2, 2013

With the Christmas shopping season upon us, most everyone is trying to decide on gifts for our loved ones — friends, family and co-workers.

While you’re at it, be sure to consider those who may not be as fortunate.

Local giving organizations are in great need this time of year. From the Food Shelf to the Salvation Army to Toys for Tots to the United Way and countless others, there are many that can help those who don’t have the money to pay for basic essentials like food and clothing, not to mention Christmas gifts.

A gift, particularly cash, to any of those organizations, especially to those who help local residents in need, will go a long way.

Local charitable organizations typically can leverage cash with matching funds or buy items at a discount to make cash donations stretch.

So the next time you’re out shopping, be sure to drop some cash in the Salvation Army kettles, or a check off at the Food Shelf.

For someone, your donation will mean the world.
