Library thankful for those that help [UPDATED]Published 10:16am Wednesday, December 4, 2013 Updated 1:18pm Wednesday, December 4, 2013
It is always a good time to say “thank you” and this week, with the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, I would like to say a special thank you to each and every one of you who make the resources, programs and services we offer at the Fergus Falls Public Library possible.
Thank you to the Friends of the Library and to all of our library volunteers. Volunteers help in many ways to ensure the library can continue to offer excellent customer service.
Volunteers keep library books in the correct order on the shelves and help get new books ready to be checked-out, in addition to many other vital duties.
Members of The Friends of the Fergus Falls Public Library, a non-profit 501c3 organization, help the library by holding a variety of annual fundraisers, including the wish tree.
From now until Dec. 24, you can choose an ornament from the library wish tree and the funds you contribute to the Friends of the Library will be used to purchase the item indicated on the ornament.
For example, $10 will purchase a new children’s board book for the library.
All proceeds of Friends of the Library fundraisers benefit library programs, resources and services.
If you are interested in volunteering and/or joining the Friends of the Library, please visit the library website (ffpubliclibrary.org) and choose the “Support Us” tab or stop by the library to learn more.
Thank you to the Fergus Falls Public Library Foundation.
The Library Foundation was initiated in April of this year with a generous donation from the Friends of the Fergus Falls Public Library.
The Foundation is a component fund with West Central Initiative and was created to “build financial support, enhance visibility of our library’s impact, and strengthen public commitment to the enduring legacy of our public library.”
Thank you to the Library Board, city staff and administration. Library Board members work with city staff and the city council to help make the library better.
Board members help library staff identify community needs, set policies and improve library services.
Thank you to my fellow city colleagues and to the city council and mayor who provide valuable support, maintenance and governance of and for library services, resources, facilities and programs.
Thank you to the Library Renewal Task Force and to each of you who participated in the Task Force’s focus groups and community survey.
The input gathered will continue to help shape the Library Renewal Project.
Thank you to the Viking Library System and to all of our fellow member libraries.
The Viking Library System provides the library with technical and professional support.
Each of the Viking Library System member libraries collaborate and share resources to bring system-wide projects, such as the Viking Library System eBook and downloadable audiobook catalog, to all of our library patrons.
Thank you to all of the businesses, foundations, nonprofits, organizations and service clubs who collaborated on or helped fund a wide variety of library projects throughout the year. There are simply too many of you to list.
But without your assistance, the library would not be able to offer many of its most popular and vital programs, including the summer reading program and summer reading tutoring program for youth.
Thank you especially to the Fergus Falls Noon Kiwanis Club for their generous donation of furnishings and shelving to improve our teen space. It has been a joy to watch this space in use.
Last, but most definitely not least, thank you to our wonderful library patrons and the citizens of Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County and Minnesota for your support.
At the library, our mission is to connect people, information and ideas to promote lifelong learning, literacy development, and community involvement to assure the best quality of life.
The library exists to serve your lifelong learning, informational and recreational needs, as well as those of your fellow community members.
A heart-felt thank you, once again and always, for helping the library achieve its mission.
Erin Smith is the director of the Fergus Falls Public Library.
