Sullivan asks residents to support United Way [UPDATED]Published 10:15am Friday, December 6, 2013 Updated 12:17pm Friday, December 6, 2013
It has been a real joy and privilege to serve as the 2013 United Way of Otter Tail County Board President.
I can report that we have raised 57 percent of our $320,000 goal. However, we are at real risk of failing to raise the funds needed to support United Way funded programs and special United Way programming, such as Coats for Kids and Project Community Connect Mobile Food Drops.
It’s your move. I am asking you right now to make a donation to United Way.
Dedicated United Way volunteers have visited hundreds of individuals and businesses in Otter Tail County to be sure everyone knows United Way’s story and has an opportunity to give. Many leading companies and institutions in our communities have already contributed to the campaign with employee drives and corporate donations but your help is still needed.
Our goal of $320,000 was set after careful consideration of the budgets and programming of United Way’s 33 locally funded programs, but the actual need in our community is even greater. This is why falling short of our campaign goal would be so difficult. You do not have to look very hard to find a family member, neighbor or co-worker who has been touched by United Way or one of its funded programs. If we fall short of reaching our goal, those who have serious needs will feel the greatest effects.
There are many who think our personal gifts will not make a difference. Nothing could be further from the truth. It takes the entire community bringing gifts, large or small, to achieve the campaign goal. Moreover, United Way and its funded programs are so effective in their use of donated funds; even a small gift makes a difference. Every contribution counts, especially yours.
I am a Minnesota native, and it has become clear to me that those communities with vibrant United Way organizations are also the communities with the greatest quality of life and community spirit. Communities in Otter Tail County have generously supported its United Way campaign in the past, and we have been rewarded with a better place to live.
We need your support to declare a victory on the campaign goal of $320,000 on December 31st. To make a donation to United Way, visit the website at uwotc.com or mail your gift to 120 East Washington Ave, Fergus Falls, MN 56537.
Thank you for Living United.
