City HR director in ‘very difficult shape’ [UPDATED]Published 11:55am Wednesday, December 11, 2013 Updated 12:02pm Wednesday, December 11, 2013
Brenda Cossette, the Fergus Falls human resources director who was seriously injured in a head-on crash last week near Pelican Rapids, remains unconscious and in intensive care at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
“Things just haven’t improved,” said City Administrator Mark Sievert, who received an update Monday morning from a friend of Cossette’s. “She’s still in very difficult shape.”
Cossette, 59, was the passenger in a Dodge Dakota pickup northbound on U.S. Hwy. 59 near Pelican Dr. S. last Wednesday morning when the driver, her husband, Kenneth Cossette, 59, lost control on the icy, snow-covered road, crossed into the southbound lane and hit a Ford Expedition head on, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Kenneth Cossette sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
The theme on any updates they’ve received about Brenda Cossette’s condition are that “things aren’t looking very good,” Sievert said.
A city employee saw Kenneth Cossette at the hospital last week; “he was just emotionally exhausted and really distraught,” Sievert said.
“He’s really going through a difficult time right now,” Sievert said. “There’s really nothing we can do at this point except hope and pray.”
Sievert is taking care of some of the general workload in the human resources department for now, and he’s looking at contacting a retired human resources director who might be able to lend a hand in the interim, he said.
