Otters battle back, fall to Spuds 79-65Published 10:29am Wednesday, December 18, 2013
MOORHEAD — After trailing by 22 points in the second half, the Fergus Falls boys basketball team was able to battle back to within striking distance, but a tough Moorhead Spuds team was able to hold on to the victory, defeating the Otters 79-65 Tuesday.
The game started off with both teams battling to a 13-13 tie, but a few key turnovers by the Otters allowed the Spuds to go on a 12-0 run and hold an 11 point advantage at the break.
Moorhead continued to pile on the points in the second half as it took a 22 point lead at one point. Fergus would cut into the lead, but could not overcome the daunting lead.
“Our effort in the second half was better than in last week’s games,” Otters coach Dave Rund said. “To be down 22, it would have been easy to just pack it in, but our boys never gave up and found some good scoring opportunities to get us back into the game.”
Austin Rund led the Otters with 24 points, while teammate Isaiah Lemke and Matthew Monke chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Spuds were led by Cody Dorow with 25 tallies. Dorow had previously scored 42 points in his last two games.
The Otters JV and ninth-grade teams each won their games against the Spuds.
The Otters will look to right the sails Thursday as it travels to take on Central Lakes Conference foe Willmar at 7:30 p.m.
