Otters’ rally falls short in 2-1 lossPublished 10:01am Wednesday, December 18, 2013
The Fergus Falls girls hockey team had its chances to triumph over the visiting Sartell/St. Stephen Sabres Tuesday night, but the hosts’ shots would not slip past Sabre goalie Clare Minnerath as the Otters fell 2-1.
Sartell got the scoring underway at the 7:44 mark in the first period as Olivia Stockinger knocked in a pass from Markia Smith.
The Sabres would add another goal in the second period as Lexi Holman flipped in the puck on a powerplay.
Fergus would get its lone goal in the third period as Annie Magnusson slapped in an unassisted shot.
“Sartell has a good team and a very good goalie,” Otters coach Matt Koalska said. “We had our chances, but they weren’t getting past the post. It’s one of the many things we need to work on before next game.”
The Otters will be back in action Thursday as it travels to take on Thief River Falls at 6 p.m.
