Otters’ defense confuses RocoriPublished 12:01pm Saturday, December 21, 2013
COLD SPRING — The Fergus Falls girls basketball team continues to get it done on both sides of the court early in the season as it defeated the Rocori Spartans 74-41 Friday.
In a Central Lakes Conference game, the Otters were able to keep pace with rival Alexandria after jumping out to a 42-24 halftime lead. The Otter defense was able to force 18 first half turnovers that propelled them into the driver’s seat.
“I loved the intensity we showed on the defensive end right away,” Otters coach Brad Strand said. “Our defense got us going and on the offensive end we made some good decisions and executed well. Anna Monke and Kristin Traiser had the post-to-post offense working and that led to several good scoring opportunities.”
Bailey Strand led the way for the Otters in scoring dropping in 26 points, 16 in the first half, and recorded nine steals. Traiser (14), Monke (10) and Brianna Rasmusson (10) were all in double figures in the win.
In the JV action, the Otters fell to Rocori 44-28. Eighth-grader Katelyn Strand scored a team high 11 points. The Otters won the ninth grade game 30-26 in a game.
The Otters will host their holiday tournament Friday and Saturday at the Kennedy Secondary Gold Gym. Fergus will open up against St. Louis Park at 6 p.m. Friday.
