Packers bounce Otters 5-1Published 10:35am Friday, January 3, 2014
In its first action of the new year, the Fergus Falls boys hockey team looked to finish a match from its Holiday Tournament as it hosted the West Fargo Packers.
The Otters could not overcome the early scoring of the Packers as West Fargo claimed a 5-1 victory Thursday.
West Fargo was able to get an early first period goal as Isaac Anderson knocked in a short-handed goal at the 5:57 mark. Tyler Berginski followed more than 10 minutes later with the Packers second goal to give them a 2-0 advantage entering the first intermission.
“I think that the short-handed goal was the difference in the game,” Otters coach Mike Donaghue said. “They fed off the energy of that goal and we did not generate good zone time.”
In the second period, Tyler Dolan and Nathan Cookman would give the Packers a four goal lead before the final period.
Fergus would finally get on the board in the third period as Sam Rausch took passes from Ean Goos and Jack Nathe and deposited it into the Packer goal. The Packers would respond and close the door as Jake Hoy lit the lamp for the Packers.
The Fergus boys finish the tournament 0-3 with the winner of yet to be announced.
The Otters will look to end its four game skid as it hosts Wadena-Deer Creek at 2 p.m. Saturday.
