Otters flutter past ‘JacketsPublished 10:40am Wednesday, January 15, 2014
The Fergus Falls boys swimming and diving team got out of the pool Tuesday evening with the satisfaction of picking up a 96-64 victory over the visiting Perham Yellowjackets.
“This was a great meet for the Otters to experiment with some new events,” Fergus Falls coach Tom Uvaas Said. “It was fun to watch.”
Uvaas complimented the Perham swim team saying it was a nice team. The Otters depth was just to much for the visitor to overcome.
Reid Magnuson had an outstanding night on the diving board as his score of 286.25 was not only good enough to earn him first place, but was three points of a school record.
Cal Mouritsen claimed top honors in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.14, while teammate Joe Kitzman won the 100 freestyle (51.13). Conner Hatfield also took a first for the Otters with a win in the 200 IM, a personal best time of 2:17.65.
Fergus also celebrated a couple of firsts as Aaron Erlandson won his first varsity event claiming the top spot in the 100 breastroke (1:17.92), Dalton Mouritsen won the 100 backstroke (1:04.97) in his first attempt this season, Daniel Kowalski swam the 500 freestyle for the time time and took first with a time of 5:51 and Jacob Ugstad had a great showing in the 100 fly with a personal best time of 1:13.37 in his first attempt at the event.
Justin Mortenson also qualified for sections with a time of 2:28.73 in the 200 IM.
The Otters will look to carry over its pool dominance Thursday as the team travels to St. Cloud to take on the Apollo Eagles.
