M State baseball signs three, to host fundraiserPublished 10:12am Thursday, January 16, 2014
The M State Spartan baseball team signed three infield recruits to the 2014-15 class on Wednesday.
Lane Berberich, a second baseman from Osakis, the 2013 Class A state runner up, will joins the Spartans
“When it’s all said and done, Lane will be a 4 year starter for Osakis. He’s fast, has great hands in the infield, and handles the bat extremely well,” M State Assistant Baseball Coach Nick Lewis said.
Moorhead’s Jason England (INF/P) and Andrew Hill (INF/C) of Bottineau (N.D.) High School also signed letters of intent to play for M State next season.
“Jason is a two-year starter for the Spuds and Moorhead Blues. He has an unbelievable work ethic and plays the game extremely hard. Andrew will be one of the most versatile players coming to the Spartans next year. As a five-year starter for Bottineau he has experience all over the field and behind the plate which will allow us some flexibility in how we use him,” Lewis said.
“We are really excited about these three choosing M State as their next home. All three come with a lot of playing experience from some really successful baseball programs and they will be great additions not only to the Spartan Baseball program but the M State community as well.”
The Spartans will also be holding it’s fundraiser Saturday that includes a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s from 8-10 a.m. A free will offering will be accepted.
The event will move back on-campus as the baseball team hosts its silent auction at 12:30 p.m. Participants can bid on several different items donated by area businesses. All the proceeds from the event with go toward the Spartan baseball program.
