Arrows shoot down RocketsPublished 10:12am Friday, January 31, 2014
ASHBY — The Ashby boys basketball team took home a rivalry victory on Thursday night, defeating Underwood 70-62.
Coming off a difficult loss to the Hillcrest Comets earlier in the week, the Rockets responded with a two-point 29-27 lead at the half against the Arrows.
“We started out pretty cold tonight and played a little lax on defense that first half,” Ashby head coach Jeremy Knick said after the game. “The second half was a different story on offense. Our defense wasn’t phenomenal, but we got the stops when we needed and rebounding continues to plague us at times. We did a nice job of penetrating and finding the open man.”
Morgan Wing led the Arrow offense with 21 points. He also had 7 rebounds.
Blake Ohren followed up with 16 points on his way to a double-double. He finished the game with 11 rebounds and six assists. Gage Olson finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as he also recorded the double-double.
Despite the loss, Rocket head coach Jesse Arbuckle said he was glad with how his team responded after its loss earlier this week.
“I was proud of how our team bounced back from Tuesday night to put in a strong effort versus Ashby. It was an exciting game throughout, and we had our chances to win,” Arbuckle said. “Ashby hit key shots in the remaining minutes and we just ran out of time. We have been in a lot of close games this year; now, it is time to figure out how to finish those close games with a win.”
Adam Creek led the way on the Rockets offense, putting in 21 points on the night. Matthew Biegler had a big double-double, scoring 15 and pulling down 14 boards off the glass. Spencer Johnson finished with 10 rebounds.
The Arrows are immediately back in action with a 7:30 p.m. game on the road against No. 1 (A) Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa. The Rockets travel to Battle Lake for a 7:30 p.m. game against the No. 5 (A) Battlers on Monday.
