The M State basketball teams have not had the best of luck beginning the 2014 portion of its seasons.
On Wednesday, both teams were unable to stop the visiting Western Wisconsin Tech Cavaliers from raining on the team’s home game.
The Cavaliers used a 23-2 run in the first half to hold off the M State women in a 64-46 victory.
The two teams were tied early on at 5-5, but Western Wisconsin Tech would find the scoring bug and kept the pressure on as it sent the Spartan women to its fourth straight loss.
Samantha Zastrow led the Spartans with 12 points and nine rebounds, while teammate Teresa Moenkedick had 11 tallies in the game.
The men’s game was a high scoring affair that saw each team shot well from the field. In the end, Western Wisconsin Tech would get the W as it defeated M State 106-96.
Western Wisconsin Tech was nearly unstoppable from the field as the Cavs made 57 percent from the field.
The Spartans trailed for most of the game, but were able to tie it at 77-77 with five minutes remaining in the game. The Cavaliers switched back into high gear as it would finish with a double digit victory.
Cody Krueger led the Cavaliers with 36 points, while three other players were in double figures.
Luke Halbakken led the M State men with 23 points, while teammate J.J. Morris was able to overcome a goose egg in the first half to score 21 points in the game.
The Spartans will be back in action Saturday as the teams host Rochester. Women’s game begins at 1 p.m., while the men will follow at 3 p.m.
