Family plans on moving to Fergus if nail salon proves successful

Published 11:45am Monday, January 6, 2014

Vu Le is used to a longer commute.

While he and his family live in Moorhead, he worked for four years as manager of a nail salon in Detroit Lakes. His father Linh had a job in Fargo before deciding to start his business.

The result is Envy Nails, 2609 Cenex Dr., a brand-new nail salon. Envy Nails just opened its doors Friday after passing its final inspection.

Vu Le serves as manager of the salon, while his mother and sister also work in the shop.

With Linh as the owner who plans on being around quite a bit, this will truly be a family business.

Although the family has not yet moved from Moorhead to Fergus Falls, Vu Le said that is the long-term plan.

“My parents wanted to come here because this is a quiet town,” he said. “If business goes well, we will move here in a year.”

Envy Nails offers manicures, pedicures, foot massages and different waxing and nail work. Vu Le’s years of experience in the nail salon business have given him confidence in running a shop, and he is hopeful business will be strong from the beginning.

But he also said the summer tends to be the busiest time for salons. For now, it will just be himself, his mother and his sister as full-time employees, with the family bringing in another person or two for the summer months.

Linh Le purchased the space in October and the family got right to work setting it up. They have done some advertising and also plan on allowing word-of-mouth to help their business growth at this early stage.

Vu Le likes the location for the business. He said they looked at finding a spot closer to downtown, but things seemed too quiet there.

A spot right off I-94 seemed to the family a better fit for Envy Nails.

“We like it here,” he said. “There’s a Target and a Walmart right around here, so there’s a lot of traffic.”

Envy Nails is open six days a week: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guests can walk in or call ahead for an appointment.
