Published 9:57am Monday, January 27, 2014

The Fergus Falls girls fought a hard battle with opponent Moorhead, but in the end, the Spuds skated off the ice with a 3-2 victory Saturday.

Moorhead lit the lamp first as Tori Davis slipped in an early first period goal.

Fergus Falls would respond in the second period as eighth-grader Annika Ohman flipped in an unassisted goal at the 9:57 mark. The Spuds would regain the lead a minute later as Monique Aanenson took a pass from Davis and planted it in the Otters’ goal. Not to be outdone, the Otters’ would knot the game back up as Annie Magnusson scored a goal 30 seconds later on a Megan Odland pass.

With the clock winding down, Davis was able to close the door on the Otters scoring her second goal of the evening.

The Otters peppered the net, putting 35 shots on Moorhead goalie Jocelyn Nelson. Fergus Falls netminder Katie Shelstad turned away 17 of the Spuds’ 20 shots on net.

The Otters will be on the road Tuesday as it takes on Central Lakes Conference opponent Sartell-St. Stephen in a 7:15 p.m. showdown.
