Blake Ohren, senior quarterback from Ashby and son of Terry and Teresa Ohren, has decided to stay close to home and play football for the M-State Spartans. This kicks off what the Spartans feel will be a strong local recruiting class. “We always try to stay as local as possible with our recruiting, so we are very happy to have Blake decide to be a student athlete at M State Fergus Falls next year” said Steve King, head coach of the Spartans. “He is an excellent athlete and we expect him to be on the field immediately and contribute to a winning team.”

Ohren has a long list of academic awards to go along with his athletic achievements. He has been an A and B Honor Roll student, Spotlight on Scholar student, and also was awarded the Excel Award.

Head football coach of the Arrows Jeff Risbrudt had this to say about Blake. “The Ashby community is very proud of Blake’s accomplishments on and off the field over the past 4 years. We are extremely excited to be able to watch him play for Coach King and the Spartan football team. He is a great athlete, a great leader, a great person and it will be fun to watch him play at the next level.”

At 6’3 and 200 pounds Ohren has made an impact athletically in the area for the past three years. This year his football accomplishments include being named Honorable Mention All State, All Section, and All Conference. He was also named All Section and All Conference in previous years. “Blake has been on our radar for some time now and I am sure some area coaches are glad to see he is finally a senior” said King. “He brings great athleticism and very good leadership to our program. He has a commitment to academic and athletic success and is a high character person. We think he will be an impact player in our conference and people will enjoy watching him for another couple years.”

Ohren passed for close to 1400 yards this past season and threw 15 touchdown passes. He also ran for 670 yards and scored another six touchdowns. Blake is also an outstanding basketball player and just recently became Ashby’s all time scoring leader.
