Olive L. Blikstad, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at PioneerCare Center.
She was born May 12, 1922, to Ludvig and Judith (Lunde) Egstad in Grand Forks, N.D.
Olive went to Roosevelt Elementary School in Grand Forks, and graduated from the high school department of Lutheran Brethren Schools in Fergus Falls in 1940.
She later attended the Lutheran Bible School as well. She was a bookkeeper for her father’s business, Egstad Hardware and Sheet Metal, in Grand Forks, N.D.
On Oct. 16, 1948, she married Paul P. Blikstad at Bethel Church in Grand Forks, N.D.
From 1951 to 1956, she served with her husband as a missionary in Japan. Together they served churches in Lynnwood, Calif.; Northwood, N.D.; Portland and Eugene, Ore.; Vancouver, Wash.; and Salem and Buena Vista, Ore.
Throughout her husband’s ministry she was an ideal pastor’s wife and a consummate example of Christ’s love to everyone around her. She also worked as a sales associate for Meier and Frank in Eugene, Vancouver and Salem.
She enjoyed gardening and playing the piano and organ. Her gift of hospitality was evident wherever they lived.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Rev. Paul Blikstad; brothers, Judson Egstad, David Egstad; and grandsons, Eric Parker and Joseph Undseth.
Olive is survived by seven children, Priscilla (Graham) Parker of Richland, Wash., Phoebe Pierce of Sisters, Ore., Phyllis (James) Thun of Phoenix, Ariz., Paul (Jennifer) Blikstad of Bend, Ore., Stephen (Pamela) Blikstad of Beaverton, Ore., Jonathan (Beth) Blikstad of Cape Coral, Fla., and Lois (Steven) Undseth, Fergus Falls; 35 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernard Egstad, Ludvig Egstad Jr., Bertrand Egstad; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
