Keith Schroeder, 79, of New York Mills, formerly Fergus Falls, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Fargo.
He was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Fergus Falls, to Henry and Martha Schroeder. He grew up and received his schooling in Fergus Falls.
On Feb. 5, 1953, Keith enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 24, 1956.
Keith was employed as an over-the-road trucker for more than 40 years.
On Dec. 14, 1967, he married Lucille (Mostue) Beckman in Fergus Falls, where they made their home.
After he retired from trucking, Keith drove truck for Minn-Dak Farmer’s Co-op in Wahpeton for approximately 13 years.
Lucille passed away on Dec. 4, 2009, and Keith moved in with his daughter and son-in-law shortly after her death.
Keith enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, watching western and action movies, driving truck, attending garage sales and auctions and conducting his own garage sales. He loved his wife, Lucille, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Martha (Mark) Bolstad of New York Mills; four step-children, Jerry Beckman of Fergus Falls, Dale (Luann) Beckman of rural Dent, Brenda Beckman of West Fargo, N.D., and Marty Beckman of Breckenridge; nine grandchildren, Andy (Ashley) Hovis, Justin Ott, Chris Schmidt, Kayla (Chris) Erickson, April (Seth) Grover, Kim (Trevor) Nelson, Markelle Bolstad, Erica Laddusaw and Alyssa Laddusaw; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; and six brothers, Wally, Donny, Larry, Arlys “Red”, Marlow and Gene.
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, at Tonseth Lutheran Church, rural Erhard
