Despite changes, life at Y goes on

Published 8:03am Monday, March 10, 2014

The YMCA appears to be in the process of having a “Changing of the Guard,” so I am told. Director Tim Olson has left to join the Missouri Valley Family YMCA at Bismarck, N.D., as Operations Director. Both he and wife are pleased to get back to their growing up territory in North Dakota.

Our membership chair person in the office, Jen Godzinski is leaving too and she refused to tell me where she was going, saying she is taking; “the 5th amendment” but mostly just taking a break from work.

Office employee Kellie Drayton has become Membership Director and Carrie Beithon has become Finance and Human Resource Director.

A previous employee, Cindy Johnson, has come back part time to teach early morning water fitness classes. So good to have this “happy go lucky” lady back with all her teaching skills and talent.

New machines for work out and new people to run the place — life goes on.

A part time Director is coming in three days per week — MTW — by the name of Mark Bjorlie — get to know this young looking part timer from Austin, who says he is already retired as a YMCA Director.

The board of directors is still in the process of choosing our new person to fill the director’s chair.

The annual giving campaign begins on St. Patrice’s Day, March 17, so you may be getting a call to help fill that $100,000 goal. Tim Olson has left the Y with so many great improvements in fund raising and new activities for the very young to the very old.

Activities for adults starting soon are; Soccer League, Racquetball League, Volleyball Tournament and Dodge ball Tournament. It is all listed in the Program Guide available for you to pick up at the Y.

Then of course swim lessons are available for pre school to adult age — all listed in the guide.

The next fund raiser being put on by the Y’s Folk will be the Salad Lunchen on May 9, 2014 with Carol Thorsen and Janine Kerr being in charge and all our members helping out for a successful event — lots of salads.

The Y’s Folk association meeting for March will begin with a Pot Luck Noon Lunchen on Monday March 17 which is St. Patrice’s Day.

Group 9 is in charge with Larry Zenner and Patricia Omundson being the leaders. President Elect Larry White says; “bring green food and dress green” for his program which will have an Irish theme of a tour and music still being developed. It is sounding just great so far.

Remember — we play bridge on Monday Afternoons.
