A Detroit Lakes man who assaulted a woman resulting in a broken nose and eye socket in an Elizabeth home was sentenced to prison time Friday in Otter Tail County District Court.

Duane Harold Mortenson, 56, was sentenced to 21 months in prison for felony third-degree assault-substantial bodily harm.

According to the criminal complaint, authorities responded Dec. 21 to the residence after a 911 call from the victim saying she was assaulted and she believed she lost her eye during the assault. The victim was reportedly bleeding profusely from her eye and the left side of her face was swollen to the point that her left eye would not open. She was taken to the hospital and suffered a broken nose and broken eye socket.

She told authorities Mortenson had been drinking, got his tractor stuck and she hid his keys so he couldn’t drive, the report says. Mortenson reportedly punched and kicked her repeatedly. He was later arrested, and a preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol concentration to be 0.26.
