Return festival to downtown

Make no mistake, we can appreciate the work of the SummerFest volunteer committee to make the annual Fergus Falls festival a success. We also believe that the festival’s location the past two years at the former Regional Treatment Center grounds was a great one.

That said, if the RTC grounds are truly unavailable this summer, we would implore the committee to reconsider moving SummerFest back to downtown Fergus Falls, and not to DeLagoon Park. If there are logistical problems with the downtown location, we would implore the Fergus Falls City Council to work through them.

While there is nothing wrong with DeLagoon Park in terms of space and natural beauty, its location is too isolated to be an ideal location. Having the craft fair, kids’ activities and other events in downtown Fergus Falls, despite some parking issues, brings visitors into the city, puts them near retail businesses, and allows the morning events to seamlessly pair with the evening parade.

SummerFest is a great summer festival that can show off Fergus Falls. Let’s keep it in a location that does just that.
