In honor of National Nurses Week, the Otter Tail County Historical Society will present guest speaker Navy Commander Donna Hendel, retired. She will address the Military Roundtable at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.

Hendel was attending college when a recruiter suggested she join the Navy. She completed her nurse’s training and then headed to Southeast Asia where she helped care for the injured and sick sailors and marines of the Vietnam War.

In addition to telling of her own experiences, Commander Hendel will share some background on the history of military nursing.
