Fergus Falls girls basketball holds end of year banquet

The Fergus Falls girls basketball team had a lot to celebrate in the 2013-14 season. Taking third place in the Class AAA state tournament and claiming its third straight Section 8AAA title.

The team is well decorated with several players breaking records and earning athletic and academic all-team honors.

Bailey Strand received the Hardest Worker and Ms. Hustle Awards. Strand was named to the Class AAA All-State team, Central Lakes All-Conference team, the Class AAA All-Tournament team, a participant in the 2014 All-Star game and was a Minnesota Academic All-State .

Strand led the team with 711 points, averaging 22.2 points per game and set a team record for most points in a game with 45 in the Otters third place win over Minneapolis Washburn.

Brianna Rasmusson took home the Ms. Defense award at the banquet. Rasmusson’s senior season saw her named to the Class AAA All-State team, the 2014 AAA All-Tournament team, the Central Lakes All-Conference team, Minnesota Academic All-State, played in the 2014 All-Star game and named a finalist for Ms. Basketball.

Rasmusson set the career assist record at Fergus Falls with 762.

Anna Monke was given the Outstanding Team Member award. She was All-Conference in the CLC, a Minnesota Academic All-State, given honorable mention in the Class AAA All-State selection and played in the 2014 All-Star game.

Monke led the team with 228 rebounds.

Devonie Smith won the Coaches Award for Toughness. She was also honorable mention in CLC.

Kristin Traiser received the Kaizen Award and was also an honorable mention in the CLC.

Junior Kathryn Sawtell was named All-Conference honorable mention.

JV awards went to Rachel Johnson (MVP Offense), Kate Strand (MVP Defense), Brooklyn Seland (Most Improved), Anna Norgard (Hardest Worker) and Amanda Nelson (Otter/Coaches Award), and ninth grade team awards went to Marie Preston (Hardest Worker), Alice Schindler (Most Improved), Rena Nelson (Most Hustle), Jordan Spangler (MVP Offense), Joey Kugler (MVP Defense) and Emma Daniels (Team Leader).
