A 26-year-old Fergus Falls man allegedly killed his cat with a butcher knife, according to police.

A woman in their house in the 700 block of Stanton Avenue reportedly argued with the suspect early Thursday, telling him he needed to take better care of their cat and to take it outside. She reportedly said he was angry, and she saw him sharpening a butcher knife a short time later. The suspect took the cat outside and allegedly tortured it.

Police found the man later and arrested him for felony torture of an animal. He allegedly admitted to officers that he killed the cat, and he showed them where he hid the animal.

The suspect was reportedly upset that the cat knocked over a bird cage in the house.
