Chargers blank ArrowsPublished 10:38am Tuesday, May 6, 2014
The Brandon-Evansville Chargers baseball team blanked the Ashby Arrows for the second time this season on Monday afternoon.
Charger pitcher Brandon Christianson only allowed two hits and struck out four in a complete seven-inning game. Christianson helped himself on the offensive side of the ball as well, as he sent a three-run homer over the fence in the third inning.
Christian Koefod pitched 3 2/3 innings for the Arrows, giving up eight runs, only four of which were earned.
“They hit the ball hard today and we had some costly errors and where unable to get our pitchers out of some jams,” Ashby head coach Chad Akerson said after the game. “This was our third game in a row without a practice and it continues tomorrow with a double header in Hancock. We will come back tomorrow with a fresh start and compete. We have had more games than outdoor practices and a lot of the baseball we are learning is on the fly. Things you cannot simulate in an indoor practice.”
Morgan Wing threw 1 2/3 innings in the Arrows loss, striking out two.
Gage Olson and Miles Wing also pitched an inning for Ashby. With spring weather forcing a number of games to run consecutively on the schedule, the Arrows are finding it difficult to rest their starting pitchers.
“We are running into sore arms with this many back to back games so we are hoping to have our pitchers go deep into the games tomorrow so we can save on some arms,” Akerson added.
The Arrows travel to Hancock Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader against the Owls.
