Fergus Falls gets a great Y leader with Lipp [UPDATED]

Published 11:22am Thursday, May 8, 2014 Updated 1:23pm Thursday, May 8, 2014

I recently read the article regarding Dennis Lipp, the new Executive Director of the Fergus Falls YMCA.

It was bittersweet reading the interview because Dennis is so greatly missed by many in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. However, we are so excited for this new opportunity.

Dennis was the Executive Director at our beloved Camp Jorn YMCA for the past 23 years. I have known Dennis for 17 of those years. I was the Director and Lead Teacher of the Preschool/Child Care and Day Camp programs and a member of the Camp Jorn YMCA Board of Directors.

Dennis came to Camp Jorn in 1991 at a low point in the organization’s history and grew the programs and sponsorship to the successful program it is today.

In 1993, day camp was added to the resident camp and grew to serve hundreds of local families with the help of a van shuttle from the grade school.

With a small group of parents and in response to community need, Dennis worked very hard to provide child care at Camp in 1997, known to this day to offer the most exceptional, high quality care for our children.

Dennis Lipp is very special and has many gifts to offer. He has the most positive view of the world and people of anyone I know.

He sees the best in everyone and because of that, we all tried to do the best we could — staff and campers.

Dennis has a natural ability to fund raise because he cares so much about the kids and makes quality programming a priority.

Dennis has impacted the lives of thousands of children and families, including my own. We are all grateful for his dedication and commitment to the YMCA values.

It warms my heart to know that Dennis is “exhilarated” with his new position. I just want to let the community of Fergus Falls know that you have just received a real gift in Dennis Lipp.

Dennis, the “Friendship Fire” continues to burn brightly in the hearts of all you have touched over the past 23 years. Best wishes to Dennis and the Fergus Falls YMCA as you partner together to grow your YMCA program. Don’t be surprised to see some visitors from Northern Wisconsin. Fergus Falls looks like a wonderful place.
